Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about how we work with clients across Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
What practice areas do you cover?+
We focus on Oil & Gas, Maritime, Environmental, Taxation, Aviation, Media, Digital Security and Hospitality & Entertainment Law — with particular strength at the intersection of energy operations and cross-border commercial regulation.
Do you act for international clients?+
Yes. Our dual presence in Port Harcourt and Aberdeen is designed for clients whose assets, contracts and counterparties span Nigeria, the UK and related energy corridors.
How do I instruct the chambers?+
Contact us by email or telephone, or use the enquiry form. We will discuss your matter, check for conflicts where appropriate, and confirm engagement terms before substantive work begins.
Is information on this website legal advice?+
No. Website content is general information only and does not create a client relationship. Formal advice is provided under an engagement letter.
Which office should I contact?+
Either office can receive an initial enquiry. Matters with a strong Nigerian operational footprint often begin with Port Harcourt; UK-facing or North Sea-related matters may begin with Aberdeen. We coordinate internally as needed.
How quickly will you respond to an enquiry?+
We aim to acknowledge new enquiries within one business day. Urgent operational or dispute matters are triaged faster — flag urgency in your message or call the relevant office directly.
How are fees structured?+
Depending on the matter, we may work on fixed fees, staged retainers, or time-based arrangements. Fee estimates and billing currency (typically NGN or GBP) are confirmed in the engagement letter before substantive work begins. We generate invoices for documentation; payment terms are agreed separately.
Do you run conflict checks?+
Yes. Before accepting instructions we review potential conflicts of interest. If a conflict cannot be managed, we will say so promptly and, where appropriate, discuss alternative ways forward.
Can we meet remotely?+
Yes. Consultations can be held by video or telephone as well as in person in Port Harcourt or Aberdeen. We adapt to the urgency and sensitivity of the matter.
What languages do you work in?+
Counsel and correspondence are primarily in English. For other languages, we arrange appropriate support so meaning and risk are not lost in translation.
How do you handle confidentiality?+
Client information is treated as confidential and shared only as needed for the matter, under engagement terms and applicable professional rules. Please avoid sending highly sensitive documents until engagement and secure channels are confirmed.
Do you act in disputes and arbitration?+
Yes. We advise on strategy for regulatory investigations, commercial disputes, settlement, and arbitration where the stakes are commercial — including energy, maritime and cross-border contracts.
Can you support a transaction that spans Nigeria and the UK?+
That is a core part of how we work. We coordinate Nigerian operational and regulatory issues with UK-facing commercial and professional requirements so handoffs do not dilute advice.
What should I prepare before a consultation?+
A short chronology, key contracts or notices, parties and jurisdictions involved, deadlines or hearing dates, and your commercial objective. Incomplete papers are fine for a first call — we will tell you what else is needed.
Do you offer a client portal for ongoing matters?+
Yes. Instructed clients can use the client portal with a matter reference and PIN for updates, documents and messages. Access details are provided after engagement — guests do not self-register.
Are you available for speaking, training or second opinions?+
Selectively, yes — for industry briefings, internal training and independent reviews where there is no conflict. Contact chambers with the topic, audience and timing.
How do I request a consultation online?+
Use Request a Consultation or Contact on this site. Your enquiry is received by chambers and followed up; if systems are temporarily unavailable, a mail fallback may apply so your message is not lost.
